Press releases are out, bands are booked, films are secured, and panelists are confirmed! February 24th & 25th is almost here and we’ve got a great line-up that definitely appeals to a variety of interests.

The festival kicks off on February 24th at 4PM with a ribbon cutting ceremony and proclamation to be read by Mayor Becky Ames. This is gonna be a red carpet affair so attendees are encouraged to dress up. There will be members of the press and an opening reception with representation from many of the films scheduled to screen that evening. This is a first in our five years of the festival!

The rest of the evening will feature some great feature films like the Texas made buddy murder mystery, Searching For Sonny featuring actors Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights), Michael Hogan (Battlestar Galactica), and Masi Oka (Heroes) as Sonny.  You can also see Lost and Found, a “love letter” to surfing documentary about found surfing photos and the stories they hold for both the people who shot them and the subjects they captured. Jacob is a horror movie produced in Houston and features Michael Biehn (The Terminator, Aliens, Tombstone). Stringendo is a fantasy martial arts high school film project. Very ambitious work for a 16 year old! You also don’t want to miss our other features like Austin High, Rainbows End, and Believe You Me.

We also have a bunch of great short films. Can’t miss shorts include 254, My Toxic Reality, Beaumont Stinks, Chant SilencieuxTechnophiliacNext, and Beef Barley Brothers. There’s so many more so go see the full list of films with links to descriptions and trailers on our schedule page.

Can’t leave out the music! We have renowned music act, Ringo Deathstarr as one our headliners Friday Night. We have some Houston flavor with the bands Bang Bangz and The Manichean. We have our local super groups: Mad Maude and the Hatters and We Were Wolves for Saturday.  Other great local bands you don’t want to miss include Purple, Burgundy Strut, Dear You, The Statement, and We Are Wombat! UltraSuede will also be jamming in our Wrap-Up party Saturday Night. You don’t want to miss these great bands!

We have a great lineup of panelists ranging from producers to directors to actors to casting agents. We have four panel discussions scheduled. All panels are moderated by our guest moderator, Alfred Cervantes, Deputy Director of the Houston Film Commission.

1). We have a technical panel by Mike Willey to discuss photography equipment and techniques for indie filmmakers.
2). Next we have an actor’s panel to discuss advice on how to find work as an actor outside of Hollywood. Also, where to find actors. Panel features actors Chuck Houston (“Believe You Me”), Jeremy Norton (“Jacob”, “In My Head”), Joe Grisaffi Actor/Casting Agent (runs “Southwest Casting”), Matt Beckham (“Searching for Sonny”).
3). Then we have a director/producer panel to talk about how to get your movie made from those who have done it. Panel features Larry Wade Carrell (Jacob), Mike Wilson (Austin High), Andrew Disney (Searching for Sonny), Scott Honea (Believe You Me).
4). Lastly, we have a Social Media Panel about teaching videographers and musicians alike how to effectively use social media to promote their work and advance their careers. This panel features Dallas-based, Social Media guru, Giovanni Gallucci.

Once the films are all done on Saturday Night at 10PM, we’re all going to Ten Lounge on Crocket Street for Music by the band: UltraSuede for the Wrap Up Party. Come mingle with the VIPs, guests, and more. Party is open to anyone with a All-Access Pass.
