UPDATE: The kickstarter project has ended and we are happy to say we reached our goal of $2000! Well $2005 to be exact. Thank you so much to those that contributed to our campaign!
We started our Kickstarter project back on December 9th to help raise funds for our upcoming festival in 2011. We have 2 backers already at the time of this post (which we are grateful for) but we will need much more to complete our goal of $2000 by our deadline of January 18th, 2011.
What is Kickstarter, you ask?
Kickstarter “is a new way to fund creative ideas and ambitious endeavors” by leveraging the internet and the power of social media. You present Kickstarter with your idea, along with your monetary goal, and the number of days you want your project to run. If chosen, you then create donation levels and rewards for each. The catch to Kickstarter is, if you haven’t reached your amount goal by the deadline, all of the donations go back to the donors. This is called an “All or Nothing Funding.”
You can see more details about our project on our Kickstarter page. We started this project because we need to raise $2000 to help cover the cost of renting venues (such as the Art Museum of Southeast Texas) and equipment (for film projection and live music) that we can’t get donated to the event. This is also our first year, in our four year history being independent without the luxury of funds from grants and other sources from being a non-profit.
If you want to help in the fight to keep indie art alive in Southeast Texas then please pledge to help us reach our goal. And even if you can’t pledge, please help by spreading the word to your friends about our fundraiser.

Preview Event -We have a few ideas for upcoming events that are in the works. One is a “Preview” event planned for January were we showcase one or two of our film submissions along with bands that will be playing at the festival. We are still looking for a good venue that has both a screen and stage for the music act.
48 Hour Film Contest – Another event is a 48 hour film contest, where teams are given 48 hours to shoot, edit and encode their film based on the criteria set in the contest. This event will be planned closer to the festival date in February.
Stay tuned for more details about these events as they because available. One final note, if you are interested in getting involved with the festival planning, be sure to visit our volunteer page for more information.
