Saturday Panels at AMSET

Panels and a staged reading of the winning screenplay will be held Saturday, May 13 at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, 500 Main St., Beaumont, TX

10:30 a.m., Getting it Done Write A panel discussion on writing in general and the differences between different styles of writing including screenwriting. The panel will be comprised of Brandon Greer and members of his writing group, with Sean McBride moderating.

11 a.m. Film Fatales: Women in Film Exploring the challenges and changes female filmmakers experience. Panelists- Molly Vernon, Film Educator and director from Houston; Lynda Reiss, long time Hollywood prop mistress that currently is directing and producing some of her own projects; and Brooke H. Cellars, horror filmmaker and director of the Southern Gothic Film Fest in Layfayette, Louisiana. Moderator, local filmmaker and Boomtown festival director, Penny LeLeux.

11:30 a.m. A staged play reading of “Who I Am Now” the first place winning screenplay, written by Laurie Powers Going, directed by Sean McBride. The play includes a cast of 16 characters. Synopsis: A man comes to terms with his southern upbringing when he returns home to care for a dying father.

1 p.m. So you want to be an influencer? A panel on content creation with Scott A Reeder of @scottpropandroll who gained over 2.5 million followers on TicTok, Instagram and YouTube during the pandemic offering prop tips sprinkled with dad jokes and bad puns. He will be joined by John Frederick Jr. who helped Vid Chronicles climb to over one million subscribers by acting in over 100 episodes. Scott, currently residing in Austin is a PNG graduate. Frederick hails from Mauriceville.

2 p.m. Rolling with the Punches: Shooting Fight Scenes with stuntman/fight coordinator Woody Almazan, star of multi-award winning SETX short film “Shhh.” He will be joined by Isaac Duerksen and John Frederick Jr., also from “Shhh” in a practical demonstration for shooting realistic fight scenes. Almazan is a graduate from Bridge City High School, currently residing in Austin.

3 p.m. Prop Masters of the Universe– Join Scott A Reeder and Lynda Reiss, each with over 30 years working property and over 50 past projects including notable projects in both film and TV. They have likely worked on at least one of your favorite films. Just a sampling of their past projects include:
